There are many variations of Mahjong or Mah Jongg across the world.
The object of the game is to make complete sets or melds. For instance
Pong or Pung is a set of three identical tiles.
Kong is a set of four identical tiles.
Chow is a set of three suited tiles in sequence.
And an Eye is a pair of tiles that form the last component of a standard hand.
The first person hold the correct sets of tiles wins the game.
Each player has a hand of tiles. When it your turn you pick a tile from the central pile or wall, and you discard a tile. Other players can bid on the tile you have discarded, but that may involve revealing their strategy.
There are lots of different tiles in Mahjong and they all have their own rules and superstitions, There are dot tiles, flower tiles, dragon tiles, bamboo tiles and character tiles. There are wild tiles.
You play an evening of several games and the role of dealer moves round the four players, the players are East, South, West and North. You win an evening of Mahjong by scoring the most points so the most obvious set of tiles indicated by you intitial hand may not be the highest scoring one.
