News from Compendia Traditional Games, July 2005

In this month’s newsletter

- Website redesign
- Games to take on holiday
- Three new games
- Carrom Boards are back (nearly)

The Compendia online catalogue has had a bit of a refurbish over the last month. There’s now a menu on the left hand side to make it easier to jump from section to section, so perhaps you’ll discover some segments of the site you’ve never seen before. Any and all feedback on the site is gratefully received.

It’s holiday time and there are plenty of different games to take on different kinds of holidays. Take a look at the travel games section for miniature versions of your favourite games. Don’t miss the card games, they’re light, small and fun to play. You might also like to try a new dice games, most have an element of skill as well as luck and some are small enough to fit in your pocket.

If you’re travelling by car you can take away something a bit heavier. Rediscover an old favourite like rummikub or tri-ominos. Learn to play a new dominoes game over evening drinks.

We have three new games
Shadows Over Camelot
Instead of playing against each other you and your fellow players, as Knights of the Round Table, will join together to defeat the game itself.
Alas your quest is further complicated by the ever-present possibility of a Traitor in your midst, biding his time, waiting to strike at the worst possible moment...

Louis XIV
Slip on the role of clever court attendant and try your luck in the court of Louis XIV. Influence the King. Bribe ministers and buy generals. Spin intrigue and spread your net in the empire of the Sun King. Every plan is right - if it works! Use of information discovered in the court to help you fulfill your mission -and win the game!

Power Grid
An empire building strategy game.
The object of the game is to supply the most cities with power. You need raw materials; oil gas, uranium, wind, to make your power so there is a constant clash between your need to buy resources and develop networks.

It was about this time last year that we lost our supplier of Carrom boards. They’ve been sorely missed so we’re pleased to announce that they’re nearly back. At first it will be impossible for us to keep up with demand so to register your interest, email us at info@compendia.co.uk, or have a look at our carrom rules and information.

The most exciting thing about our new Carrom boards is that we’re making them ourselves. We’ll be making all sorts of high quality hand crafted wooden games. Mr Toogood (or ‘Dad’ as we like to call him) will be making the games with help from the ever over excited Compendia staff. We’ll soon be unleashing a new website and we’ll keep you informed of new products as they arrive*.

*amendment 1st August 2005, the new website is at:
